Bauer Vapor X:40 Review

The X:40 is the mid-level offering of the Vapor series of hockey sticks by Bauer. Constructed out of carbon fiber and fiberglass, the X:40 offers decent performance at a modest price.

Blade construction starts the the same foam core (Aero Foam II) used in the X:60 and X:50) and finished with a woven composite wrap. The junction of the blade and shaft offers dual taper design and enhanced stiffness and "Pure Shot Blade Profile" for increased stiffness and improved accuracy. Shaft construction is similar in profile to the X:60 and X:50 with double concave wall design, but constructed out of a higher percentage of fiberglass resulting in a thicker wall and notably heavier overall stick. Bauer's Stick' um grip is standard on the X:40.

Using the stick, the added weight and mass of the shaft did make the stick feel less agile and not as quick as the X:50 and X:60 models. The blade was noticeably thicker, but still felt responsive and offered decent puck feel while stick handling. Shot power was slightly above average and accuracy was good.

Bottom Line: A good, but somewhat heavy, fiberglass / carbon fiber composite hockey stick for those looking for a reasonable performance and a sub-$100 price. 84 points.
